What is WiMAX?
WiMAX is an internationally ratified wireless technology that does not require a fixed telephone or cable line to gain access to the internet. It is a fast, efficient, cost effective and a secure alternative to both cable and DSL based broadband.Why is it important?
The fixed WiMAX standard enables seamless interoperability with existing devices such as broadband wireless modems, PC’s and laptops. What will it let me do?
WiMAX provides a standard wireless environment to deliver indoor and outdoor broadband wireless services to business, residential and public sector customers. Is WiMAX Safe?
Yes. The equipment in use meets ICNIRP reference levels that represent safe operating standards. These guidelines are based on a considerable body of independent peer reviewed research from around the world and are recommended by the UK's Health Protection Agency and the World Health Organisation. The WHO state that despite extensive research, there is no evidence to date which concludes that exposure to low level electromagnetic fields is harmful to human health. The Council recognises that further research into these issues is underway (as sponsored by the government) and reiterates that it is taking a precautionary approach and ensures that all such equipment and services are well within the safety limits. Will WiMAX compete with Wi-Fi?
WiMAX and Wi-Fi are complementary technologies and will remain so for the foreseeable future. Will WiMAX replace DSL and Cable?
No. DSL and Cable broadband services will always have a place alongside WiMAX; however for those in WiMAX transmission areas, it is can be a cost effective and secure alternative. What is the Range of WiMAX?
Outside range within the Milton Keynes area will be approx 10km as the service and the technology is enhanced it is believed that range will extend further.Does WiMAX have quality of service (QOS) capability?

No, Connect>MK will provide you with the receiver, and it is then a simple plug-in to your home device.Will I be able to install WiMAX by myself?
Home users: The answer is yes! However, if you prefer an engineer can be arranged to visit and set-up everything for you. Please contact us for charges. For business users this will depend on your exact requirements, we will discuss this with you before you order. (Some connectivity products may require an external receiver). Who is Connect>MK?
Connect>MK is a private company formed by Milton Keynes Council to provide the residents and businesses of Milton Keynes with WiMAX Broadband services.
